Florence to Bologna

Cycle 4 miles

We were staying in the beautiful renaissance city of Florence which is famous for its art and culture. But we decided we wanted spaghetti bolognaise for dinner so decided to pop up to Bologna for the night.

Travelling by train with the bikes is not an easy option. It takes two to hang them in the carriage and a palaver at the station when the lifts are not working, which was of course the case today.
The university town is lively and vibrant and we enjoyed a beer at the student bar.
Wore our cycle helmets walking around the leaning tower in Bologna. You can never be too careful.
We wandered among the university buildings feeling quite at home.
Visited the Basilica Di San Pietro.

We found the meridian clock in the Basilica. Sunlight enters through the tiny hole 27 metres above the floor. At solar noon, the image of the Sun crosses the brass line on the floor, marking the date and season.
And finished the day with tagliatelle al ragù. Naturally.

Alison is surpassing all expectations with her Duolingo tonight. We will no longer need to rely on Kevin, Wendy or Charlie for directions. Alison is confident. Excellent.

Good night
