Distance 19 miles

We had just the 16 miles to do to take as into the centre of Rome. We took it easy as we thought we would be there for lunch.

We revisited the Basilica in Ariccia in the hope of another stamp for our Credenziales. It was a busy day in the church. Two weddings, two funerals and a mass. We loitered outside for a while, waiting for an appropriate moment to slip in. The priest blessed us in between seeing to the wedding preparations and his assistance gave us a stamp. A good start.

Everyone said take the Appia Antiqua into Rome. An old Roman road with multiple ancient ruins along the way.

The first three are correct but we would be happy to discuss its bike friendly credentials.

It took us a long time and a lot of pushing on difficult surfaces. But we finally arrived in Rome at 4.00pm.

A drink to celebrate and then it took another hour and a half to find our accommodation. Major roadworks, busy traffic and operator failure. Up three flights of stairs with the bikes and no lift. But we are here for two days.

Oops. We have broken two rules in the apartment block already – no bikes and no gelato.

Tomorrow we go in search of another Testamonium and will probably try to tour the four Basilica.

And after that? We will be on our way to Venice but without a plan. It might work out better that way.
