Distance 40.94 miles
Temperature 29
Up early and we had left by 8.15am determined to show Kevin who is in control. Our speed peaked at 22.8 miles per hour and we were a little anxious that the over ambitious Kevin might alter his predictions accordingly.
We are indebted to Tony, who has sent a link on how to tame Kevin. We hope that Kevin now has realistic expectations of our capabilities.
We found that Kevin needs further education on routing. He has an unnerving tendency to take us down narrow one way streets in the wrong direction. Terrifying.
It was hot today and also windy. Rather like cycling in a tumble dryer. And talking of the heat, emergency measures have been taken.

So very un-Italian. So un-chic. But needs must.

We have diverted from the Via Francigena temporarily. We don’t want to retrace our path on the route from Brindisi. Instead we are heading up the coast and will rejoin the Francigena somewhere around Benevento. After all, we could be setting a trend and extend the route with some unexpected diversions on the way.

‘The subtleties of leaning a new language in your older years. We thought we had asked for crisps.

Good night.
