Our first major climb of the day and we reached the ski resort of Glenshee. The sun was out, walkers were taking the lifts and we celebrated with a coffee. The bikes have collapsed with exhaustion.
Midge report: no bites. The possibilities are that both Smidge and Jungle Juice work, we are cycling too fast for them to catch and bites us, unfavourable weather conditions or they don’t find me attractive. Happy with any of these alternatives. Will continue with the investigation.
The Queen is at Balmoral and so are we. In the centre of the trees is the flagpole on the building. No invitation to tea so we plough on towards Colnabaichin. Who needs a bicycle when you can be teleported to the summit? Beam me up Scottie. Relieved to have reached the top of the second big climb of the day. End of the day and we reached the ski resort of Lecht in the Cairngorms. The highest point on the national road network at 2090 ft.
Our bed for the night is in Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands where malt whisky is a speciality. Lots to look forward to.

I have just calculated that, as well as cycling 836.6 miles since Lands End, you have also ascended 19208.1 metres, more than twice the height of Mount Everest. No wonder the midges have given up. They know superhumans when they see them. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if you were beamed up. Xx
