Day 23 Marmande to Lac de Lislebonne

Distance 41.6 miles

Ascent 653 metres Descent 583 metres

Christophe had designed a wonderful route for us today. We started on the EV 3 cycling along the banks of a canal off the Garonne and then on through rural France via a Rembrandt route, finally climbing up to the scented pine forests of the Lot et Garonne.

Marmande dressed for the Whitsun holiday weekend.
We were tempted to join in but our panniers held us back. Tant pis.
Finding a lunch spot was difficult as we were miles from anywhere. Seeing a snake cross the road in front of us put us off sitting on the grass. The shelter had plenty of wildlife to make up for it.

Have pitched our tent at a campsite by a lake. No restaurant but has a bar. We arrived early and made the most of it with a refreshing dip in the lake followed by a drink on the terrace.

A sachet of rice heated in the microwave and a chocolate biscuit for supper while we planned the next few days cycling.

We are living it up.

A bar, a lake AND a microwave. Those of us who are confirmed non-campers have to admit that we find this a somewhat unusual combination. But that just proves what sheltered lives we have led. Hey, but you have done very nearly 900 miles! Almost halfway and the best is yet to come. Fantastic.
